Let's Talk Romance Books with Katie Rues...

What are you currently reading?

Blind Date With a Werewolf by Patricia Briggs

Do you have any pets?

2 dogs – a goldendoodle named Piper and a Lab named Jack. For those who have read my paranormal books, the Ancients Rising series in particular, they’re the inspiration for the dragonlings because they’re so silly.

Coffee or tea lover?

Both lol. I have a caffeine addiction (as my teenager likes to remind me). I’ll drink any type of latte, and I like to mix it up with flavors but I often go back to hazelnut or caramel. For tea, I’m currently obsessed with this lavender peach blend I get from a local shop.

Name one thing on your bucket list.

To hike to Machu Picchu.

Do you have any hobbies or particular skills?

Quilting and flying—I’ve been quilting for a few years and I’m a student pilot working on getting my PPL.

Did you always dream about becoming a romance author?

No, but I’ve always been a romance reader (or it feels like it anyway). I discovered the writing bug in my early twenties and never looked back.

What three important facts can readers expect to find in all your books?

99% of my books have a relatively steamy heat level (open door). I think I’ve got one or two short stories/novellas that are closed door and an upcoming thriller so those are that 1 percent with no steam. Other than that, all my romance books have an HEA (obviously that’s the case with romance because it’s a genre convention but I like to specify), protective MMCs, and no cliffhangers.

What inspired you to write the Holiday with a Hitman series? Tell us about the main characters, tropes, any characteristics that stand out, etc.

In Protecting Rebel, book 21 of my Red Stone Security series, I introduced Ellie, the heroine of book 1 in the Holiday With a Hitman series. She’s a grumpy billionaire who hates Christmas and had a very odd relationship with her next door neighbor (IYKYK)… I hadn’t planned to write her story because she was such a weirdo but readers asked for it and this new series full of weirdos and misfits was born. I turned off my internal editor and have had SO much fun leaning into this world of hitmen and their friends and families.

What do you hope readers will experience or gain when reading your stories?

I want my readers to be entertained and forget the world around them for a while. I also want them to see good triumphing over evil (or just assholes getting their comeuppance). And I love it when readers see themselves represented.

What are you currently working on?

Knight’s Storm, book 1 in a new trilogy I’m launching next year.

Author bio:

Katie Reus is the USA Today bestselling author of the Ancients Rising series, the Endgame trilogy and the Redemption Harbor Series. She fell in love with reading at a young age thanks to weekly trips to the library. However, she didn’t always know she wanted to be a writer. After changing majors too many times, she finally graduated with a degree in psychology. Not long after that she discovered a new love—writing.

She now spends her days writing paranormal romance and romantic suspense. In addition to writing, she’s also obsessed with hiking, quilting, and all things aviation.
